Hot Meals for Survivors Like Zain

A microproject by International Disaster Volunteers (IDV)
Vetted

Summary

Zain is 18 months old and he's a survivor of super typhoon Haiyan. Zain lives with his parents and his 3 month old sister in Barangay 88, in the city of Tacloban. Zain's dad is a construction worker but with so many people out of work competition for jobs is fierce. This means that Zain often has to go hungry. With your help, we'll be there to provide hot meals to help keep Zain healthy and happy.

Challenge

Typhoon Haiyan (known as Yolanda in the Philippines) left wide spread devastation across nine provinces in the Philippines. Survivors lost loved ones as well as their homes and livelihoods. Communities are working hard to pick up the pieces but jobs are hard to come by and families often struggle to put food on the table. This perpetuates their suffering and can lead to malnutrition and poor health.

Solution

Your donations will be used to provide hot meals, like rice porridge with chicken and vegetables, for survivors of typhoon Haiyan living in poor communities. Priority will be given to the most vulnerable such as children, elderly residents and mothers with nursing infants.

Long-Term Impact

Feeding the most vulnerable is one of the many ways we're helping families recover from typhoon Haiyan. By providing nutritious, filling food families won't have to use precious savings to pay for meals. This will leave them with more funds available to rebuild homes and restart businesses. Kids receiving meals won't go to school hungry which means they'll be able to focus on learning for the future. Receiving hot meals will also remind families that the world hasn't forgotten them.
