Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for your generous donation to our project "Help Us Open Our Doors!" Because of your kindness we have been able to install secure doors in all our classrooms throughout the Mariposa Center for Girls. While this may not seem like a big deal, it has had a major impact on how we can run our programs. Because of your generousity we have installed more than 30 doors and windows on 14 classrooms and 2 offices, making our space safe and secure. Each of the rooms and offices is named after a Haitian or Dominican woman that has inspired us at The Mariposa DR Foundation in some way.
Upon first moving into the center we were unable to run a large number of programs due to the security of the space available to us. For example, it was not possible to store computers for the girls to use because the classrooms were not secure. After installing the doors throughout the center we were able to accept a donation of laptop computers that the girls can now use for homework help, resume writing, and various job skill training workshops. In fact, a large number of our oldest girls have been able to take part in these invaluable classes and many are now employed! We now have a place to store our brand new musical instruments, sewing machines, art and gardening supplies and much more! Without the addition of classroom doors to our center these accomplishments would not have been possible.
