Teachers Support Fund Update

Dear Dreamer Center Friend,

Thank you for helping us provide a quality education to low-income children in Guatemala. Your donations help us to give trained Guatemalan teachers a living wage so that they can support their own families and provide excellent educational opportunities for low-income children that wouldn't be able to go to school without the help of the GOD'S CHILD Project.

Although we did not meet our goal for funding the salary of 3 teachers at our Dreamer Center school through this campaign we were able to combine your donation with those made through other channels to continue classes. Dalila, Jorge and the other 6 teachers at the Dreamer Center continue working hard to give their students an education and hope for a better future. Recently, the teachers decided to have a weekly science fair with a different grade presenting their experiments to the rest of the school each week. The students are having a blast with the different experiments and are, of course, learning a lot too!

Meet Jorge!

Meet Jorge, born and raised in Antigua Guatemala. He is currently 27 years old, and is the 4th grade teacher at our Dreamer Center. Jorge also teaches social studies, civic education, English, and artistic expression (music, dance, etc.) to the 4th through 6th grade students. He majored in Social Sciences and World History at the Universidad Del Valle de Guatemala.

Jorge possesses many skills and hobbies. He loves nature, open spaces and fresh air. He also loves going for walks and exploring historical landmarks. One of his favorite learned skills is to be able to play almost any rhythmic percussion instrument. He was quick to tell us, “I love playing drums; it is one of my favorite activities. I can also say I'm a musician. I have had the opportunity to play in many places with many important people in the industry. I can even play Arabic music; it's a rather peculiar talent.”

“But even more than playing drums, I love being a teacher,” Jorge said, “every moment spent in my classroom I am inspired to do more work, more projects that stretch my students.” He loves thinking about and advocating for his students, because after all, as he says so eloquently, what happens in his classroom is forming the next generation of educators and business owners, nurses, doctors, lawyers, and firefighters. Therefore he always tries to show his students that there is a world of possibilities outside the four walls of the classroom, the school and especially their homes.

We are so lucky to have Jorge here with us at the GOD´S CHILD Project, working in the Dreamer Center. He is an inspiration to not only the students but to his coworkers as well!

Dalila has the passion to make the difference!

Meet Dalila, one of our amazing teachers at our Dreamer Center school. Dalila is 25 years old and is full of energy for teaching her little kindergarteners! As a child she remembers always wanting to play teacher with her friends and when she was old enough to choose a career she chose to study Pre-primary Education. She specialized her college work to work specifically with children aged 0 to 6. By doing this she received two degrees, Bachelors of Teaching in Early Childhood Education and Pre-primary and a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Pre-primary.

Dalila has worked with children under the age of 7 for 3 years now with us, and in total she has 8 years of experience as an early childhood educator. She says "if you have talent to make people laugh and create an environment for happy children then that is what you need to do."

Dalila is a very friendly person and likes to help others. Although she says that she does not have much talent for cooking or sports she makes up for it with her passion for going to the gym. She also likes to play, dance, sing, and take pictures with her students.

Three years ago she began to work at The GOD´S CHILD Project, in the Dreamer Center, and from day one she has continued to grow personally and professionally by sharing with each child who belongs to the center. As an educator she feels fulfilled, satisfied, and really happy. She says working here has been a mix of discovering through unique experiences based on the children’s lives but she is very happy that she chose a profession that is so full of love. She says that she feels like every day at work she is on vacation because of all the laughter, hugs, and kisses from her students.

We are so lucky to have Dalila here with us at the GOD’S CHILD Project! Thank you for your support and continued desire for our children to have the best teachers Guatemala has to offer.
