Clara is 4 years old and a kind girl who smiles a lot. An education will be life-changing to Clara it will enable her to learn to read and write and give her a great future. Her parents lack the funds to send Clara to a good pre-school, they are seeking employment as an electrician and shop keeper. The local school is severely overcrowded and the cost of school fees and a uniform means Clara needs your help to go to school.
In the rural town of Gbawe, Ghana, there is only one free public school and it is extremely over-crowded with up to 65 students per class. High illiteracy and unemployment prevent many families from being able to afford other schools that charge fees and many children dropout to work. The literacy rate in Ghana is just 71.5% and huge gaps remain between literate men and women. Extreme poverty, illiteracy, and a lack of proper education trap many families in a cycle of deprivation.
