Dear Friend and Funder,
This is the last report you will be receiving for the mini-project you assisted called Help Military Children Cope Through Music. The project has been retired based on a timeline with GlobalGiving.org, and we've succeeding in accomplishing a lot together. Even though we fell short of our highest funding goal, the work has taken place because the money you contributed helped us achieve the first level goals for the work here in San Diego. So many young students in the public schools here are children of the military and because you contributed to this cause, we've been able to train 50 teachers who serve this special group. They are all leading songs for learning in their classrooms. counseling rooms, out on playgrounds, in lunch rooms and also after school in music clubs.
Meet these teachers in the Point Loma schools. Candy, Shannon and Terry teach at Loma Portal Elementary, about 6 blocks from the Naval Base, a mile from the Veteran's Village of San Diego and the Aspire Center. Katrina teaches at Dailard Elementary, not far from the Mira Mar Marine Corps Air Station. These are just 4 of the 50 teachers you helped GITC get into musical action. Their students are making music every day, learning to sing to learn and to heal. Candy is the new music teacher at Loma Portal and she is currently lobbying her PTA to fund the purchase of 4 more ukuleles so that every child in her school, all 392 of them, can learn to play during music time! We were able to get the school 8 instruments, so with a little extra push, she'll have 12. She can keep building from there.
Imagine your impact through Candy, then multiply that times 12 and you can begin to understand how much you have helped already. But there is so much more to do.
Please stay with us to support this effort to reach the children whose hearts need extra care and whose educational paths require artistic expression and motivation to overcome fear, anxiety and loss. We will be launching a new campaign for our military children very soon, and for now, will you please continue to stand strong with us?
If you would be so kind as to give your gifts to Guitars in the Classroom through project 7953 until we have the new one launched, we can continue to provide care for our military students throughout the school year. We hope to raise another $2,000 by mid-January for this special purpose! As soon as the new project launches, we will write to let you know.
Thank you very much for caring about students who need you so much by preparing their teachers to creatively lead the way.
Wishing for you, peace, health and joy in the weeks ahead,
Jess
