This microproject is a second step for Laura, who graduated from our program "Fight Poverty: Educate Women in Panama" and who lived in poverty and violence her whole life. During her training, we empowered her and gave her the tools to further her socioeconomic position in life. Now, she has the opportunity to set up a food business but needs donations to put theses skills to use. It is our responsibility to prove to these women that the promises of a good future that we make do come true!
This project will help solve the vacuum that exists in Panamanian society for women entrepreneurs. It will also address the rampant female unemployment in the country. By giving this woman, Laura, the opportunity to put the skills we have given her to use in opening her own food service, we can make her a role model in her at-risk community so that other women, with kids to feed and bills to pay, don't have to fully rely on their partners, who are oftentimes emotionally distant or not present.
By funding this small business, we can teach both Laura and her friends and community that women can make an honest living for themselves and their household. It will educate her and those around her in work ethic, problem solving, balancing a budget, and running a venture that proves beneficial for customers and providers alike. It will inspire growth in her sector as well as a sense of self-worth in her personal life.
This will further prove to our donors that our program provides a sustainable solution for women looking to receive an education, similarly to how our other success stories have, and this in turn will inspire more donors to participate in the Foundation. Helping Laura succeed is part of a cycle that will bear fruit not only for her and her community, but for any woman looking to participate in "Fight Poverty: Educate Women in Panama," since she will inspire the donation of more resources.
