Art, Mariana's greatest passion

By Natalia Pacora | Project Leader

Mariana is a 15-year-old Champ, who is in the third year of high school. Her dedication and effort have made her an excellent student, who can find time to practice what you are most passionate about, art. Since she was a child she has had different artistic experiences that have allowed her to choose a technique to be able to develop professionally. Currently, Mariana is focused on drawing with defined projections for her life and her great potential to become an artist referent.

'My interest in art was from my early years',  the Champ said. Their parents realized that she had a great musical ability in her early years. So, after many classes and practice, she managed to be admitted to the government program known as 'Orquestando'.  Because of that, she had the opportunity to participate in 'Symphony for Peru', one of the most important musical education and transformation programs in the country, led by the renowned tenor Juan Diego Flores.

Later, she decided to start and learn more about the performance, which led her to participate in some contests, theatre performances, and short films. Many of them, written, interpreted, and illustrated by herself, always to leave a message for society. One of the works that she remembers with special affection, she sought to communicate how child abuse is present in Peruvian society but is often passed through without consideration.

Mariana assures that art has helped her form her identity and know how she wants to make herself known to the world. One of her future projects is to raise awareness on the care of nature in the Amazon, through some artistic work or illustration. Her love and passion for drawing have given her the ability to create life in her characters, working on their personalities and make them part of a story. She even tells us that she feels a deep affection for many of them. She is grateful for what she has received from life and art, which helps her to express herself, feel free, and acknowledge your emotions and feelings.

One of the most important pillars in Mariana's artistic development has been her parents. Both are art lovers and always ready to give her the opportunities necessary to continue watching her grow. They consider that being part of Peru Champs their daughter has more chances to develop her potential. So, they know her capacity to be an agent of change and to focus her work on achieving positive changes in society. They watch her strive and her consistent dedication to pursuing her dreams. They consider that she has a great opportunity and support her with all their available resources.

Mariana, also known as Mer Salee, her pseudonym, dedicates all her free time drawing: creating characters, researching unfamiliar techniques, and practicing human physiognomy, over and over again. She is aware that commitment and consistency are the only way that she will achieve her goals. As well, she recognizes that she has easy access to information and claims that there is no trick, so it is all about the practice to perfect your skills.

'When I draw, I feel that I was born for this, and I must continue to grow as an artist. I cannot waste my talent'  Mer Salee says every time someone asked her why she draws. She invites all of us to find our talent and focus on developing it. Like her, we are all capable of fighting for our dreams. loves. She acknowledges that, nowadays, she has easy access to information and affirms that “no there isn´t a trick', you just have to start and practice whatever is necessary to perfect the skills.

'When I draw I feel that I was born for this and I must continue to grow, I cannot waste my talent' is what Mer Salee says every time she is asked why she draws. She invites all of us to find our talent and focus on developing it. Like her, we are all capable of fighting for our dreams no matter what.
