Christina's parents grew up on the streets of Tbilisi, Georgia selling flowers and balloons. They slept in a burnt-out house. Both want better for their 5-year-old daughter. The family now live at our shelter and Christina has been going to gymnastics classes. It turns out she has an incredible talent. Within 6 months of starting classes she became national champion of Georgia. Today you can help Christina travel to compete at this high level with the hope of joining the Georgian squad.
Poverty is standing in the way of 5-year-old Christina developing her amazing talent. She is the national gymnastics champion of Georgia in her age-group despite living in a homeless shelter. To join the national squad, when her competing expenses would be paid, she has to prove herself at national and pan-Caucasus contests. Despite local donors buying her outfits for competing, this is still way, way beyond her parents' means.
By covering the cost of Christina taking part in contests between January and June 2020 we will allow Christina to develop her talent and possibly join the Georgian squad. If we raise the full amount, she will be able to take part in two contests in Baku, Azerbaijan as well as contests in Tbilisi and Bakuriani. Her mum's travel expenses will also be covered so she has a chaperone.
We can make a powerful statement about the talents and potential of some of the poorest and most vulnerable children in our country. As well as the incredible boost to Christina and her family, we hope that her success will encourage others to respect and support the homeless.
