Help Disabled Afghans with Education & Healthcare

Summary

The continuing COVID-19 crisis, violence, poverty and inflation in Afghanistan, has created a need for further funding to sustain AIL's health and education activities at the Peer Herat Disabled Center in Herat. We have supported this center for over 10 years providing a doctor, nurses and educational activities such as English and computing classes and workshops in peace, leadership and the environment. We need funds to keep providing care and to provide more classes to residents.

Challenge

The disabled people at our center in Herat need health care and education. Without a center such as this, the disabled would be on the street or suffer abuse at home. AIL provides health care with a doctor and 3 nurses available weekly. Education classes in topics such as English and computing help residents stay connected and get jobs or study at university. Workshops are held in peace, leadership, citizenship and more enriching residents' lives.

Solution

The funding is needed to keep our work at the disabled center going. Covid-19 has stressed everyone and our finances have been impacted by the crisis. Funds will be used to pay the doctor and nurses, provide medical supplies and pay teachers who hold the lessons at the disabled center.

Long-Term Impact

The residents of the disabled center will continue to receive the quality care from an AIL doctor and 3 nurses. They will be able to continue with their studies at university with the support of classes in English and computing at the center. Some of the people have jobs and our support helps them get to work and maintain that independence. These services care for 47 disabled people whose physical, mental and emotional lives are improved because of what AIL provides.
