In African schools, boys woefully outnumber girls in attendance. Two out of three of the 110 million children who do not attend school are girls, and girls grow up to make two-thirds of the world's 875 million illiterate adults. This project will help ensure that Elizabeth is able to attend her final year of high school by covering her school fees and her final exam fees before college.
Families with limited funds to educate their children focus on sending their boys to school, and many girls who start school drop out because their parents cannot afford to continue to pay for their education. Elizabeth lost her father at a young age and her mother is a primary school teacher who cannot afford to cover her daughter's school expenses. This project will provide a full scholarship for Elizabeth covering her school-related expenses.
Funds from this project will help Elizabeth complete her final year of high school (senior secondary school) and cover her fees to take the West African Senior Secondary Certification Examination (WASSCE) in order to start college the following year and eventually become a medical doctor - her desired future profession. Your support will help provide all she needs to be successful in school and ensure that she completes her education.
Healthy, well-educated and emancipated women are an excellent foundation for a new and free society. Your support will help Elizabeth to finish school, become independent and self-sufficient. In her chosen future career as a medical doctor, she will also be contributing to national development.
