This project plans to provide reusable, washable sanitary pads for vulnerable girls in the rural communities that we work on as it was part of the cross-cutting issues we found out during our projects that girls were not attending school because they do not enough toilets specific for girls in their schools&the school provision of sanitary pads is not always enough to go round and thus end up missing valuable school days. The project has thus far impacted 50 girls and intend to do 150 more.
There are currently over 20 million children out of school 70% of these are girls and the reasons range from poverty, hunger, and lack of toilets for girls, sanitary pads and access to water. These reasons have caused a lot of girls to miss out on growth with the community not having the wherewithal to solve all these problems. With the current rise in inflation to 110%, rising cost of food items, and depletion of available structures, this project's objective is to provide development goals.
This project will provide 150 reusable washable sanitary pads to vulnerable girls who cannot afford to buy sanitary pads and thus the use of these pads can enable them to stay in school and not miss classes. The sanitary pads last for up to one year and one pack has 6 pieces in a pack which is very ideal for them to last for a year and also stop the use of cloths. They will also be trained on menstrual health hygiene thus improving their reproductive health and the creation of safe spaces.
The project will impact 200 vulnerable girls in two communities of Tofa and Ungogo Local Governing Council in Kano. The girls will also be taught menstrual health hygiene and safe spaces will be created for them to call when they have issues in regards to taking charge of their reproductive health and hygiene. The training will also include how to make these reusable and washable sanitary thus improving the economy of the community as they will make their pads for resale.
