We want to give 500 child labourers who work at places like metal factories, tea stalls, construction sites or as domestic help a shot at a happier childhood, by helping them get back to school. With your support, we'll be able to take the steps that are necessary to make it happen.
All children deserve a chance to grow up in a safe and secure environment that helps them learn. However over 33 million children in India, between the ages of 5 and 18 years, work as child labourers at tea stalls, factories, construction sites and even as domestic help. They are vulnerable to exploitation that can affect the course of the rest of their lives. Help us send India's children back to school so they can fulfil all their dreams.
Amir dropped out of school because he was bullied for not learning as quickly as his classmates. Disappointed he went back to helping his abba make pashminas but he couldn't stay away from books for too long. Soon CRY helped change his story. They came over to speak to his parents, motivated him to go back to school & worked with his teachers to ensure he learnt well. They also ensured that he wasn't teased by the other kids, which helped him focus. Today, he's studying in class 6!
Just like Amir, there are many children who need our help! With your support, CRY will work towards freeing 500 children from the clutches of child labour by creating awareness on the importance of education among parents and communities and by connecting parents to social protection and welfare schemes so they don't force their children to earn a livelihood. Over a period of time, our goal is to ensure child labourers go back to school instead of work so they have a shot at a happier childhood.
