The Mariposa Center for Girls is a beautiful space for the girls of our community to come and learn valuable skills that will set them off on the right path to become active leaders for social change. Our facility contains space for educational, enrichment, and job training programs, but currently does not have an infirmary to deal with any accidents that may occur. The organization is looking for funding to get our nursing station up and running.
The Mariposa DR Foundation serves more than 70 girls and their families in the Cabarete community. We provide programming 5 days a week and all our girls are participating in at least 3 hours of sports activities a week. This can occasionally lead to accidents, and the organization is currently unable to provide care beyond basic first aid. Additionally, very few of our girls have an idea of basic first aid.
Funds raised will be used to finish and outfit our center's infirmary. This will allow space for our licensed nurse to care for any injuries that may arise or privately discuss health concerns with our girls. The nursing station will also be used to address health concerns of Mariposa volunteers and staff, as well as to provide training in basic first aid.
The infirmary will provide first aid and health assistance to the girls on a daily basis, but will also be used for our annual health clinics. These clinics benefit more than 100 girls and their families, and for many are the only time during the year they see a medical professional. This will provide our families with the healthcare and wellness counseling they need to stay happy and healthy.
