It has been almost 8 months since the Government decided to close down society due to the COVID-19, and our beneficiaries and their families were told to stay at home by the local authorities. This resulted in an immediate economic shock, which left our families without the possibility to generate an income. The pandemic is still present, and society is still affected by the contingency. The families are heavily challenged as the children are not allowed to go back to school yet, and the economic circumstances are severely disadvantaged compared to before the outbreak. The parents are trapped in a no-win situation where, in order to keep sustaining their family, they typically have to choose between leaving the children home alone while they go working on the streets or dragging the children along while working on the streets’ noisy and unsafe environment. Both scenarios involve putting their family’s security and well-being at even higher risk.
Fortunately, thanks to you – all our supporters – we have been able to accompany our population from the first day. We bring all our families pantries every four days, to ensure balanced and nourishing food for the whole family even though times are tough. Almost 1000 pantries were handed out from March to June this year to 166 beneficiaries and their families.
This way we reduce stress, so the families can focus on the thread the pandemic represents to their physical and mental health, and the fight against extreme poverty which they currently are being pushed into.
During all visits and food deliveries, we continue following all sanitary security measures to avoid contagion.
