Haiti has once again been marked by socio-political tensions in recent weeks, tensions that have led to stoppages in economic and social activities in Port-au-Prince, as well as Les Cayes, Gonaïves and Cap-Haitien.
Given that these tensions are countrywide, the situation is affecting a large part of Haiti’s population.
The grave deterioration in citizen security and renewed mass demonstrations have once again resulted in violence, loss of life and the destruction of property.
Healthcare options are still nearly non-existent and healthcare providers have long avoided some of the most troubled neighborhoods in Port-au-Prince.
Our Italian team at NPH St Damien Hospital refers that a strong feeling of Haitian pride is rising among the young. Many of them take to the streets wearing a bandanna with the colors of the Haitian Flag.
Fr Rick and his crew are working hard to reach those in need and offer medical assistance, shelter and access to staples, such as water.
A new ambulance is badly needed.
