Contributing to funding a new ambulance will improve the way our medical teams reach and assist the population of Port au Prince, assuring a prompt transportation of sick or wounded patients to either the NPH St Damien Hospital or the St Luc Trauma Clinic.
In Haiti, hour after hour the riots increase in an escalation of tension. The population is in revolt against the Government. The NPH St. Damien Hospital is in emergency mode; it's overcrowded; doctors have trouble getting there. The general hospital is closed. Dozens of injured are transported to Saint Luc's hospital Trauma Center, where Father Rick and his team care for the victims of the clashes, as well as taking care of the bodies to be buried.
Father Rick Frechette asks us for help to equip himself as soon as possible with a new properly equipped ambulance, a sturdy vehicle that can travel the rough roads of Port au Prince. With this new vehicle, a larger number of wounded will be rescued from the streets, more sick children and hisk-risk pregnant women will be assisted and driven to either the St Damien Hospital or the St Luc Trauma Center.
Bringing life-saving medical care to underserved communities not only in this period of emergency but also long term, will be key to respond to emergencies throughout the city in the absence of a coordinated governmental emergency response system.
