Fifteen women in the drought-prone region of Ochomogo, Nicaragua want to build a brighter future for their families. They aren't all literate, but they are ready to learn how to start up small businesses to generate income to better support their families. Each woman already has a strong idea of the business she wants to run and a work ethic to make it succeed. With coaching in basic business planning & start-up capital, they'll be able to meet their basic needs & secure their financial futures.
Mothers know what is best for their families and their children's priorities- whether it be choosing to provide school uniforms, notebooks, or more nutritious meals. But they shouldn't have to choose only one. A small loan provides women choices and simple tools they need to jump-start their business. We offer both loans and training so women can increase income, address their family's immediate needs, and pave their own path to a more independent and self-sufficient future.
By issuing women the training they need in starting up small businesses, and capital to put their ideas in to action, they're able to start up new enterprises that are in demand in their rural community and achieve self-sufficiency. Fifteen women in Ochomogo are ready to start their businesses; they just need your help. Every $240 raised will offer one more woman ongoing business training and money management skills and an initial loan to start up her business and achieve self-sufficiency.
This is about more than economic development for 15 women: it's about advancing human dignity. Mothers take pride in sending their children to bed well-fed, in a decent home each night, and then off to school clothed in proper school uniforms each morning. We teach women about personal & family health so one illness doesn't bankrupt them anymore, and help them open savings accounts at commercial banks so they can join the formal economy. But most of all, we build self-esteem and create leaders.
