NURTURING CHILDREN’S POTENTIAL ABILITIES FOR A BETTER FUTURE. With the vision of improving the quality of life of vulnerable children in Uganda through providing quality education, proper accommodation, health care and spiritual guidance, we seek to nurture the children’s abilities for a better future and this has been done through training the children in different skills to have a sustainable better future. The children on Another Hope Children’s Ministries sponsorship program have been given an opportunity to acquire marketable skills in the areas of Tailoring and fashion designing (1), hairdressing and cosmetology (9), Bakery and cookery (9) and carpentry and joinery (2) under the interim skills training project. A total of 21 children were trained of which 12 were girls. During the period of the lockdown, it was had keeping the children engaged and not having a clear time when school would begin, it was necessary for us to find something for them to do. We did have a scare of children engaging in indiscipline cases and also given the high rate of child abuse in the country, we wanted to protect our children from any of those child abuses such as sexual abuse. Many of the teenage girls have gotten pregnant during tis COVID-19 lockdown and their chances of going to school have lowered. Our children being busy skilling saved them from such issues at the same time helping them get a skill that will enable them thrive well in competitive world. Thanks so much all of you for supporting the children with these wonderful skills. According to the beneficiary, the opportunity availed to acquire skills in bakery and cookery is the biggest blessing she got during the lockdown. The beneficiary is a 17 year old girl from Lukwanga village living with her mother. The beneficiary lost her father and all the responsibilities of the family are on the shoulders of her mother. Another Hope Children’s Ministries weighed off the load of paying school fees and I am grateful for that because it has enabled me to stay in school. I am also grateful for the interim skills training program from which I have acquired skills in bakery and cookery. Many girls like me in my home area have conceived and went into early marriages because they didn’t have what to occupy them during the lockdown so they were misled by the men. The training has been a mind opener for me because when I learnt to make cookies, daddies and other items, I saw an opportunity to make money, improve my standards of living and my family as well. I cannot surfer with being unemployed because I can employ myself with the skills I have. There is so much hope built in me through the skills I have acquired and I am so thankful to everyone who has supported me and the rest of the children under the interim skills training. May God largely bless you.
