Emfasis & its network of trained social workers need extra project time. The big differentiation is to proceed with all existing cases to their final resolution & help the fire victims complete their paperwork & advance in government relief benefits. This must be combined with focus on sustainable community empowerment effort. We firmly believe with a new government in place, the need to support the victims in the final steps of receiving aid & the ability to rebuild lives & houses is crucial.
There is no official streaming of information with regards to the classification of the destroyed houses. The government-run social services blame each other for the chaotic practices. Municipal and European Parliament elections are on-going. Consequently, previously identified key issues set as priorities are no longer being addressed. Pre-electoral promises are on the rise, yet housing and human dignity are yet to be restored.
Our goal is to continue: The employment of the 2 social scientists of the community in order to empower the community from within, offering guidance and counseling for forms submissions, social benefits, document replacements, inclusion activities, legal and financial issues. Organizing group activities for most vulnerable groups (elders and children) affected by the fire. Community synergies for day to day life facilitation: car-pooling, wellness, commuting, work-related seminars
The community will heal from within and dignity will be restored. Residents will be empowered instead of institutionalized, feeling supported yet given the freedom to handle their individual situations. Emfasis Streetworkers will remain present to ensure the communication bridge between society and the specific communities are kept open and proactive. Sense of hope and unity will prevail. "Can do" attitude by the residents, accompanied by a sense of progress and individual achievement.
