This programme will continue a school feeding programme where by each class will be producing different types of food including beans, maize, bananas and sweet potatoes, at the end of the day pupils will have lunch rich in all types of body building food. The school will provide local resources like land while the pupils provide the labour during co-curricular activities at 4 pm whereas Mountains of Hope provides capacity building.
Very few children have a meal before they come to school, this means that pupils leave home hungry; they stay at school hungry, since the schools do not provide meals, and only eat in the evening when they go back home. Many families cannot afford to pack for children lunch which is a requirement for the Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools.
We have been providing 300 kilograms of maize flour to enable pupils have porridge for lunch. Our plan is to introduce a Community School feeding programme in which schools take a lead in producing food for children to eat while at school. Each class grows a different type of food and later the whole school feeds on the different types of food.
One Primary school in Mpigi District is a pilot school, it worked out, we will then scale up the programme to cover 10 other schools in the District.
This project has provided additional documentation in a DOCX file (projdoc.docx).
