This project will provide essential food items, and masks to migrants and local communities in Anekal, Bangalore where we operate. These are casual labour who have entirely lost their livelihoods due to a 3-week lockdown during the Coronavirus pandemic, and are consequently staring at starvation. A contribution of $30 will help us feed a family of 4 for a month, and we hope to feed 100 families during these difficult times.
Today we seem to be living in a different world from just a month ago. As the number of cases of Covid-19 is growing, governments around the world have instituted measures to help contain it. In these tough times, we have switched to working and learning remotely. But, the underprivileged people have not been so lucky. One such group that is massively affected is about 120 million migrant workers in India who are daily wage earners and have lost their livelihoods & are STARING AT STARVATION.
OBLF trains & employs women from the local communities around the 76 schools we work in. And we have decided to take help from this local network to distribute rice, lentils, basic spices, soap and a few other things to clusters of targeted families of migrant workers identified by our ladies & the local police station. These families are in dire need of food and essential items. We also plan to distribute masks in order to prevent the spread of infection in the communities around the schools.
This Project has the capacity to SAVE LIVES of migrants whose families and communities are faced with a life-threatening situation, the like of which none of us, sitting at our computers in the safety of our homes can ever imagine. For them Covid-19 is a distant threat, but starvation is real, imminent and immediate. Our knowledge of the local communities can make a difference between life and death of at least a few of them. A contribution of $30 will help us feed a family of four for a month.
