Well what started of with an idea to assist 100 families in a very hard to reach area spiraled into a hug project, assisting 5010 families in that hard to reach area. One of our donors stepped up his support and he insisted that we would help all the people so that no-one would die of hunger.
We did two rounds, the first round was around 600 families. As the area was so hard to reach there is no way to just go, do your assesment and return to continue planning.
The area was only accessible by driving by car till the road ends, walking through rocky terrain to reach the river, crossing the river with water coming to your neck on the first trip and the second trip to your eyebrows, after that a trek through steep mountains, passing cliffs where you don't want to look down and finally reaching the area where people live at the verge of death. Our team risked their lives two times, the area is also surrounded by enemy forces, we took a huge amount of cash, notebooks, pens, baby formula, seeds...all across the river, carried on heads and on a small raft which we made for the second trip.
The needs were just beyond description, people who had lost everything in the war and had not had any assistance since peace came. People who were living on just the berries from trees. People who were waiting for certain death to come. But instead of death, Abraham's Oasis came and provided each family with cash support and a budget for the health department to go and purchase medicines and whatever was needed to keep these people alive.
The joy was huge, 5010 smiling people, whose future changed from certain death to a chance to live. Our staff was so delighted to bring such joy to this very desperate area. They were happy to risk their own lives in order to help their people.
We are deeply indebted to all our donors who made this possible!
We will not stop here, we will continue to assist in other famine affected areas around us, the needs are big and we hope you will continue to support our efforts!
