No child should have to face distracting hunger pains while in school. By supporting our school feeding program, you can help provide a year's worth of protein-rich breakfast porridge to a classroom of 30 children. When kids receive this nutritional breakfast, enrollment doubles, making children both better nourished and better educated!
In Ghana, 1 in 4 children under the age of 5 is stunted due to malnutrition. When a child doesn't get the necessary nutrients for proper development at a young age, they are impacted for years to come. School attendance and performance decrease because children are distracted by hunger pains. A child may also develop further health consequences from a lack of proper nutrition, causing their family to devote more of their resources to health costs rather than food, school, or business ventures.
Supporting this project will ensure that 30 children in Timeabu, Ghana receive a nutritional breakfast for a year through our school feeding program. Schoolchildren will receive a year's worth of nutrient-rich "koko" porridge, which contains Quality Protein Maize. QPM has about 90% of the digestible protein found in a glass of skim milk, meaning children who consume this porridge will be better nourished and therefore better educated throughout the year.
Each time we've introduced a feeding program, that school's enrollment doubles, daily attendance increases, and absenteeism decreases. Teachers report more attentive classrooms because children can focus on their studies, free from the distraction of hunger pains. That head start at learning lasts a lifetime. When kids are given a nutritional breakfast, they are able to learn better, attend school longer, and make greater contributions to their community through this improved education.
