This project will provide the materials, space, and facilitation of Kickboxing, Yoga, Zumba, Running and Volleyball for 40 Women who are seeking asylum in Northern Greece. Women joining these classes also create a community where they feel safe and supported by each other. Donations to this project will also help us maintain of our indoor and outdoor gym facilities.
There are more than 3000 refugees living in the north of Greece. Many are stuck in a legal limbo and in difficult living conditions for years with little to no access to education, to psychological support, to the society. Additionally, women have little access to safe spaces. This leaves women with little agency, some citing difficulties in mental health, well-being and a sense of isolation.
This project offers the platform for women to create safe spaces and community through sports. Women gather 4 days a week for kickboxing, zumba, yoga, running and volleyball. Every other month we gather for a full day activity that is sports or community related. Women will have knowledge and experience in supporting their physical and mental health through sports; while creating the safe space and community through their engagement and collaboration.
This campaign will have an impact on the lives of 150 women in northern Greek refugee camps, improving access to safe spaces and thus their health and well-being, creating conditions that are necessary to regain confidence and to be able integrate into society.
