We're thrilled to announce that IkamvaYouth is participating in this year's #GivingTuesday campaign. Our theme for this year's campaign is 'Support A Learner on Giving Tuesday' . Help us to support learners through education and ensure they receive academic support and reach their educational goals. Your generosity ensures that learners from underprivilege communities at our branches receive the academic support and career guidance they require to continue to learn and realise their potential.
It is well known that the education system in South Africa needs support. Approximately half of the children that start Grade 1 will not matriculate and of those that do, only 47% will go on to pass matric. From this small percentage of learners that do pass matric, less than 10% can hope to do well enough to achieve a bachelor pass. Through tutoring, career guidance, psychosocial support and post-school placement support learners are able to achieve their potential - lifting each other up
The project provides us with the platform to acquire donations and funding from a large global audience who might otherwise not be aware of our campaign. The funding we receive from the microproject will be allocated towards our core tutoring programme and assist us to support high school learners with after-school tutoring, career guidance, mentorship support, computer literacy and a holiday programme. The mircoproject will also serve as another channel to position our organisation to donors.
The project envisages that all the learners in South Africa who begin grade 1 in 2018 (estimated at 1 000 000) will pass Grade 12 or the equivalent; that all the learners who matriculate in 2030 will access post-school opportunities (learnerships, tertiary institutions, employment or entrepreneurial activities), and that all young people who engage in these post-school opportunities will within four years of matriculating have a dignified living.
