Summary

Mr. Dung* and Mrs. Miet* are both war veterans, exposed to Agent Orange during their years of service. The couple has lost twelve out of thirteen children because of the dioxin. The pain that they have gone through as parents is unimaginable. Their only surviving child Thuy, her daughter Thoa and nephew Duc represent another two generations affected by the poison. You can help AP & AEPD pay for a buffalo and a sugar cane press to support this deserving family. *Only first names are used here.

Challenge

During the Vietnam War, over 19 million tons of pesticides including Agent Orange was sprayed over the country. Those exposed suffer from many health conditions. Mr. Dung and Mrs. Miet's daughter, Thuy, suffers from depression, a bad memory and constant headaches. Her daughter Thao's eyesight has been steadily declining since birth, and their nephew Duc is wheelchair-bound. Duc is the son of Mr. Dung's brother. The family kindly took him in despite their already difficult predicament.

Solution

Living in a rural province, the adults in the family have little economic opportunities while the cost of healthcare for Thoa is quite high. Thao's eye exam in Hanoi alone costs $5 million each time. Besides some government support, the family has other way of earning a living. They hope to supplement their income with a sugar cane press, so Thuy can run sell the popular drink to local children. A buffalo will also help them greatly with farming.

Long-Term Impact

When you give to this project, you're giving this deserving pair of parents more than a buffalo and a sugar cane press. You are giving them the tools they need to support themselves. You are giving their daughter a way to provide for her family. You are lending a hand to help this family heal from the great losses that they have had to endure for the past decades.
