Emily called us from Madrid after she was sexually assaulted by a student from another university in her apartment. She was completely distraught. She didn't speak Spanish and needed medical attention. Linda, the case manager that took Emily's call, immediately called Rachel, one of our sexual assault advocacy response team members in Madrid. Rachel was able to get to Emily within 1/2 an hour.
Rachel took Emily to the hospital, provided translation and stayed by her side for support. Emily was so grateful to have a fellow American by her side who could speak English & Spanish and help her during her terrible ordeal.
With support like yours we are able to provide immediate, on the ground assistance to American students sexually assaulted abroad. Thank you so much from the SASHAA Team!
