Over 300,000 American students study abroad every year. Unfortunately many experience dating violence and sexual assault. Alone in a foreign country, afraid to tell anyone especially their parents of their school, they don't know who to turn to. With this project, we will provide extensive emergency response services to 10 American study abroad students including case management, payment of medical fees or copays, counseling and emergency needs.
Unfortunately 1 in 5 women will be subjected to sexual assault in college. When on campus in a foreign county the numbers increase. With this project 10 American study abroad students will receive confidential emergency services after an incident of dating violence or sexual assault.
Ten American study abroad students will receive services from AODVC/SASHAA case managers following an incident of dating violence or sexual assault.
According to RAINN, 208 thousand rapes occur in the USA annually. If we apply the same population proportion to the 65 million Americans that travel overseas every year, there would be 39,000 Americans raped in foreign countries annually. From the sexual assault victims that have contacted us in various foreign countries, they are extremely grateful for our help and assistance when no one else would or could provide the services we provide to them.
