During the earthquake, more than 22,000 people were displaced. Now these people are living in shelter camps without work nor school and without an expected start date. Children have left the disaster traumatized. Clara Luna desires to go to these shelters to children programs and activities for the affected children to lessen the burden and trauma of having their whole lives disrupted and living in a shelter.
The Clara Luna team will travel to the affected areas (specifically Calceta, Rocafuerte, Portoviejo, Manta, Tosagua, Bahia de Caraquez, San Vicente, and Perdenales) to the shelter camps to provide the following to the affected children: -A theatre production -Reading Activities -Free Reading time with more than 50 books -Arts and Crafts -A grab bag that includes activities for when we leave
There are currently around 100 youth and children involved in the clubs and activities at Clara Luna, decreasing the number of youth in Puerto Lopez involved with drugs and alcohol, teen pregnancy, and health problems (malnutrition or overweight). With this project, we hope to expand the youth and children that attend our clubs to affect at least 200 youth in the community.
This project has provided additional documentation in a DOCX file (projdoc.docx).
