Ebola VHT screening kits-Kampala, Uganda

Uganda remains on high alert due to the ongoing Ebola threat in the region. The disease remains dangerous and requires continued vigilance, community awareness, and preventive action to protect lives.

Our project is actively conducting Ebola sensitization and awareness campaigns in churches, schools, and local communities, educating people on prevention measures, early symptom recognition, and the importance of seeking immediate medical attention when suspected cases arise.

Despite our commitment and continued efforts, the project is currently facing little or no funding, which is affecting our ability to reach more communities and strengthen prevention activities. Nevertheless, our team and volunteers are doing all that is possible to support public health efforts and help prevent the spread of Ebola.

We urgently appeal to partners, donors, well-wishers, and stakeholders for support to sustain and expand these lifesaving awareness activities. Community sensitization remains one of the most effective tools in preventing Ebola infections and protecting vulnerable populations.

Together, we can save lives and keep our communities safe.

When news of Ebola began spreading through communities, fear arrived before facts. Families gathered in homes and trading centers asking difficult questions. Parents worried about their children. Rumors moved quickly, and many people did not know who to trust or how to protect themselves.

But in the middle of uncertainty, communities began to rise together.

Mountains of Hope quickly mobilized response teams and empowered Village Health Teams (VHTs) to become frontline educators and trusted messengers. These were not strangers entering the community; they were neighbors, parents, and local leaders walking from door to door, carrying information that could save lives.

Through household visits, community dialogues, school outreach activities, and FM radio broadcasts, communities began replacing fear with knowledge.

"When the VHT came to our home, she listened to our concerns and explained things in a way we could understand," one mother shared. "We felt less afraid because now we knew how to protect our family."

For many VHTs, the work went beyond awareness campaigns. It became a commitment to protecting their own communities.

"People were afraid at first," one VHT explained. "But after talking together and answering questions, we saw people becoming more confident and willing to share the right information with others."

The response teams from Mountains of Hope witnessed something inspiring: communities becoming active partners in prevention. Families began sharing health messages with neighbors. Young people spoke to friends. Local leaders encouraged openness and trust.

One response team member reflected: "We discovered that when communities receive accurate information and support, they become stronger than fear."

Every home reached, every radio message aired, and every community conversation represented another step toward protecting lives.
