This microproject will change the life of Y. A. by providing the financial support she needs to continue her studies in Early Childhood Education, a three year technical program, at the INFOCAL Institute here in La Paz. Y.A. comes to Helping Hands from another social organization in La Paz. She is the mother of a two year old girl and would like to work in a children's nursery when she finishes her studies.
Y. A. was referred to Helping Hands by a local social organization that works with victims of violence in order to allow Y. A. to complete a technical course in Early Childhood Education. Y. A.'s husband works as an assistant mason and makes barely enough for the household needs and those of their child. Y. A. wants very much to have a profession and the chance for a better future for her and her family.
The project will pay the cost of Y. A.'s studies which is $US 54 per month, and her husband will pay the transportation costs. Y. A.'s mother has agreed to take care of the child each morning while Y.A. goes to classes. Y.A. will have the time necessary to attend her classes and complete her assignments. Upon graduation, Y. A. will have the tools she needs to earn a living in the field of Early Childhood Development, and she will also have better tools for raising her daughter.
The Project will educate girls and young women empowering them to be economically independent and able to provide for their families' health and well-being. As mothers, educated girls raise healthier, better educated children and have the capacity to contribute with their skills to their local community. To break the cycle of poverty our girls must be given equal opportunities for health care and education.
