This microproject will provide safe drinking water for about 5,000 people who currently depend on unsafe and distant water sources. The project will drill a borehole and install a solar-powered water system, reducing cases of diarrhoea, cholera, typhoid, and other waterborne diseases. It will also reduce the hours women and children spend searching for water, giving children more time for school and adults more time for work and family care.
About 5,000 people in the selected community of Ogane lack access to safe drinking water and depend on unsafe, distant water sources. This exposes families to diarrhoea, cholera, typhoid, and other waterborne diseases. Women and children also spend hours each day fetching water, causing children to miss school and leaving adults with less time for work, childcare, and other daily needs.
This intervention will drill a borehole in Ogane and install a solar-powered pump, water storage tank, and public collection taps. The system will provide safe drinking water near residents' homes without depending on electricity or fuel. Water testing will confirm its safety, while selected community members will receive training to manage, clean, and maintain the borehole.
The solar-powered borehole will give about 5,000 people continued access to safe water, reducing waterborne diseases and household medical expenses. Children will have more time for school, while adults can spend more time working and caring for their families. Community management and regular maintenance will help keep the water system working for many years and serve future generations to come.
