This project aims to reduce the prevalence of domestic violence in families during 2025-2026 elections in Uganda by providing support to victims, promoting gender-sensitive policies, and engaging communities in dialogue. Our goal is to create a safer environment for families to exercise their right to participate in the electoral process without fear of violence or intimidation.
Uganda's current political season has seen a surge in violence against women and girls, particularly during elections.Uganda is conducting all political elections in January 2026.The 2020 National Violence Against Women and Girls survey reported that 68% of women voters experienced violence, with women above 30 years being disproportionately affected. The militarization of electoral processes and the normalization of violence as a means of resolving conflicts have exacerbated the issue
Our project takes a multi-faceted approach. We'll engage communities in dialogue to raise awareness about domestic violence and promote gender-sensitive policies. We'll provide support services, including counseling and legal aid, to victims. We'll also build the capacity of security agencies to respond effectively to domestic violence cases and advocate for policies protecting women's rights.
By reducing domestic violence, we'll promote women's participation in the electoral process, reduce community violence, and empower women to assert their rights. This will create a safer environment for families and promote a more equitable society.
