Creating Women leaders through Girls Education (#28734)
Final Report November 2017
This is our first micro project and could able to raise only $110 out of the budgeted amount $10,000. But it is a big experience for us, we learned lot of micro project fund raising, contacting potential donors. All these learnings would help us in our fund-raising processes. The whole idea of the project is to help girls go up to degree level education, and motivate them as future leaders, completing degree means they can postpone their marriage upto 21 years of age that is upto their completing of the degree. Since it is a micro-project it is closed in the globalgiving site, but we will carry our objective of creating women leaders through girl’s education. We already have started reflecting on the fund-raising experiences and developing new strategies. During the last 4 months we have been approaching donors particularly form India to donate for this project. The $110 raised is distributed among 7 girls who had recently joined colleges, each one is given Rs.1000, On August 15th Independence day we have distributed RS.5000 to 18 girls and Rs.1000 to another 8 girls from our local donations. All these girls are first generation school goers not only that only 7% of the girls who passed high school go to colleges.
Scholarship distribution to colleg going girls.
As part of creating leadership opportunities ‘Snehidhi’ adolescent girls group members were given the responsibility of organizing the Independence day and they organized the event with local contribution. They organized cultural events, sports and a discussion with women. On that day scholarship money was also distributed, the Snehidhi leaders and members selected the girls for scholarships.
With our new learnings we will again post a new project for our idea of supporting girls to continue their education and become future leaders. We are also planning to create a corpse fund to support girl’s education. One of the important thing happened during this project is we have shared our idea of creating women leaders through education with community members particularly women and we also shared our idea of corpse fund and their participation and contribution in that. In the next 5 years we planning to support 500 girls to become graduates. Today’s girls are tomorrows women leaders, let’s together strive for that.
