Challenge

There are more than 100.000 visually impaired children in Ukraine according to Ministry of Public Health and Department of Social Policy. Among them there are 1000 totally blind children. All of these children are suffering from the lack of books in Braille with tactile pictures. In Ukraine there are no producers of such books and there is no experience in printing of high quality books. This project will teach Ukrainian specialists how to print high quality books In Braille with Tactile images.

Solution

The young specialists are trained to create high quality Braille books and design accessible for reading tactile images, so a blind child could identify the image with his/her fingers. High quality books are spread for free among families bringing up blind children, so they could learn to read and support their literacy.

Long-Term Impact

We will help more than 1000 visually impaired children in Ukraine to get the same level of development as their healthy peers. These children will be able to attend comprehensive secondary schools. We will educate families allowing them to guarantee their children happy childhood and acquaintance with the world in the best way. The project will create a positive attitude toward people with disabilities and help integrate them with community.
