What is the situation with the Covid-19 in Nakuru, Kenya - at the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center? The question was asked and our project manager, Kenneth A. Branda answers in this short video (filmed by Dennis Rasto).
In Nakuru - like all over Kenya - people are out of work. Rents cannot be paid. People are losing their already desolate homes. People are literally starving and are receiving little or no support.
We can only help with the possibilities given to us. Donations have been coming in since April so that we have been able to help the Live and Learn in Kenya International children and their families with relief funds to buy food, soap, and other basics. Donations have waned over the months though - and hunger and desolation are still very strong and very, very real.
We have done our best to provide as much as possible - but primarily our goal is education. There has been a total stop to all forms of education in Kenya since April and schools are not scheduled to re-open until the new school year begins in January 2021. For this reason, the Ministry of Education has decided that all pupils and students will repeat their grade.
But the children attending the Live and Learn in Kenya School are receiving worksheets and assignments from their teachers every day. The parents or guardians pick up their children's homework and bring back the completed assignments to be corrected by our teachers. This way the children are kept busy and learning - and the teachers are working for their pay.
We at Live and Learn in Kenya Int'l are so thankful for the wonderfully generous donations coming in that are keeping food on the children's plates - and those of their families as well - during these horrific times. Your donations mean the world to so many people.
We hope you enjoy the short update video.
Thank you - Asante sana!
