2020 has been an atypical year. The Pandemic has disproportionately affected lives and it is unclear when public schools in India that are attended by the less fortunate will reopen. It is imperative to ensure continuity in learning, or else this will mean the end of childhood for millions. This Project will help 4500 underprivileged kids in rural Bangalore who do not have access to digital resources continue to learn in a remote setup.
2020 has been very tough, and like every other organization small or big, OBLF has had to reimagine how we are going to work going forward. For the demographics we work with, access to laptops, smartphones, and the Web is not the norm, and exposure to the English language is very limited. With all the uncertainties around the reopening of schools, it is crucial that we engage kids in various learning activities, or else they will move further and further away from what they have learned so far.
We have leveraged our network of para-teachers who live in the rural communities around the schools in order to ensure that no child is left behind. Our teachers have started going from door to door to distribute worksheets. They are sending cognitive exercises every day to the children and have taken advantage of every open space in the villages, to conduct in-person teaching in small groups. The kids are given Tablets loaded with educational games that can be played in an offline setup.
Pratham has been reporting massive learning deficits in public schools for years. Private schools have opted for remote learning to cope with COVID19. Unfortunately, only the poorest in India send their kids to public schools hoping to break the cycle of poverty. The Pandemic has disproportionally affected lives, we need your help to alleviate the digital divide in the communities we work for. A contribution of $70 will help us bring 1 tablet to 5 kids.
