New computers for PIZZ School office in Zambia

By Bridget Higginson | Operations Manager

You will remember that some time ago, PIZZ School and support centre in Zambia suffered a break in and lost a couple of laptops and a desktop computer amongst other items. Thanks to your support, they have now managed to increase security and purchase 3 new PCs. These computers have now been installed and the school office is back up and running.

There was some delay in getting the computers because travel was not permitted to Lusaka for much of January and February due to a cholera outbreak. To date, according to the Zambian Ministry of Health, there have been 4625 cases with 91 deaths. Thankfully no-one from PIZZ School has been affected and the civil-military operation seems to have contained the outbreak, with the number of new cases decreasing rapidly.

Once the travel ban was lifted, the computers were sourced in Lusaka and transported to PIZZ School in Monze. They were purchased at a good price from the charity Camara Education - a charity which supports the use of technology to improve education for disadvantaged communities around the world. Staff will now be able to keep efficient records for all the children and from these records, we will be able to share with you some of their successes… like for example, 26 students passed their grade 9 exams and have started at secondary school this year.

Now PIZZ School has adequate facilities for its administration, we can assure you that Mrs Sianga and her dedicated team will continue to provide love, care and a quality education to more than 400 orphaned and vulnerable children. In the long-term, this will provide young people with the education and skills needed to obtain stable employment to enable them to support both themselves and their families.

Thank you for supporting this project.
