Thanks to our Global Giving donors, during the past 6 months we have expanded our microproject goal to provide clean water and hygiene in Mindanao, Philippines from 175 childen in one school to more than 10,500 children in closer to ten schools.  In other words, community partnerships were inspired by your generosity to transform $500 of Micrcroproject donations to more than $5,000 from additional donors above and beyond our goal.  We have sparked the dignity and confidence of local communities to believe in their self-esteem, because other people in the world respected their basic human needs.

Mindanao Region, Philippines is rated on par with the poorest African countries by the United Nations. In many communities, most schools lack any type of clean water, washing facilities and hygiene materials. Children miss school or perform poorly because of parasites and illnesses. In addition, the survival difficulties of residents are a cause of civil war and communal unrest. It is also an area where international terror groups such as ISIS seeks to recruit desperate young people.  Asia America Inititiave and our school partners, backed by our international donors, are serving as the frontline protection against illness, desperation and communal violence through our sincere efforts and unconditional love.

" We have never imagined that people -- even strangers in other parts of the world -- could care about our survival," says Principal Kauzar at Manilop Elementary School. "This care has inspired teachers, parents and our children to work together and try our best...  Our school attendance has been nearly 100 percent since this AAI program began last school year.  And classroom performance has dramatically improved because healthy children are more energetic in classrooms and likely to attend school every day."

From the bottom of our hearts we are grateful to GlobalGiving, AAI staff and all of our donors.  We are committed to Mindanao schools to expand this program by the end of the new 2018-19 school year.  Our next step is the World Refugee Day Campaign which includes a 100 p[ercent match of every donation, no matter the size this Wednesday, June 20, 2018.  Please consider to contribute to AAI's program at this link:
