By Matthew Starr | Upper Neuse Riverkeeper
Thank you for your generous support of the RiverKids in the Classroom program. Donors like you have helped us make a positive impact on youth in the Neuse River basin. We have visited 2,425 youth in 5 counties along the Neuse River.
The youth that live in the Neuse River Basin are the answer to improving our water quality and making our water environment a healthy habitat for the wildlife and plants that call it home. Because we are educating today’s youth, we will be leaving the Neuse River in thoughtful, caring, and engaged hands that are ready to answer to the challenges we face now and into the future. It is because of caring generous people such as you that make this happen.
After a recent trip to a local elementary school I got a stack of letters in the mail. I would like to share two of those 5th Graders letters with you:
You were very inspiring and what you said made me realize how important it is not to throw trash on the ground and to pick up thinks because it goes to a very important place. I will never litter again or not pick up after me or others.
Thank you Matthew for taking time out of your day to come speak to us about how important it is to keep the Neuse River clean. You were very funny. Now I have been taking shorter showers and telling people to pick up their trash or pick it up for them. I never knew all the ways the Neuse River can be polluted and how much litter there really is in it. I never knew that dirt could pollute the river or that lawn fertilizer could run into storm drains and out into the Neuse. I think that you were the best speaker of the day. I like how you did the example because I didn’t know how dirty it could get. Thank you very much
The Neuse Riverkeeper Foundation will continue to speak to RiverKids in the Classroom so please check back for more updates and to give when you are able. Our goal for RiverKids in the Classroom for 2013 is 5,000 and we need your help to get there.
Thank you
