On March 26, 2016, Kupona’s sister organization, CCBRT, celebrated 15 years of providing disability and rehabilitative services to the people of Tanzania. In honor of this milestone, we invited you to help us change more lives, and reach more people living with disabilities over the next 15 years through a GlobalGiving fundraising campaign.

You responded. Thanks to your generosity, over $1,900 was raised for CCBRT’s life changing work. $1,900 equates to 111 eye consultations, the first step towards sight restoring treatment; food for 760 patients during their stay at CCBRT Disability Hospital; or corrective treatment for 12 children with clubfoot. Thank you!

At Kupona, we’re passionate about opportunity. Contributions like yours empower people living with disabilities in Tanzania to realize their full potential, and seize new opportunities. Thanks to you, CCBRT is able to provide high quality surgical and rehabilitative care to thousands of people each year, setting them on the path to a healthy and productive future.

People like Nelson.

Nelson was brought to CCBRT when he was one-month-old. When his mother, Monica, delivered Nelson at a Dar es Salaam hospital, the nurses told her the baby had clubfoot and she should come to CCBRT.

“At the beginning it was really disturbing me, but I started feeling better because relatives were encouraging me…we heard about CCBRT through television ads. We would not have been able to pay…so we’re really grateful that CCBRT provides the treatment for free….I can already see the treatment working. I can see a real difference in Nelson’s feet. I’m so happy CCBRT is here…now there is a place for parents and children to find treatment and support.”

In our 2015 Annual Report, available now, you’ll find more stories of individual lives changed through your generosity and CCBRT’s dedication. 2015 was Kupona’s most successful year yet, mobilizing over $1million in financial and in kind support for a range of CCBRT’s programs, all designed to provide high quality services not only for the people in need of care today, but for future generations. The role you play in our progress is crucial. This report reveals the scale of our collective impact.

Taking CCBRT’s vision to New York City!

Since 2009, Kupona supporters have contributed over $1.3million to the treatment and prevention of obstetric fistula in Tanzania. On International Day to End Obstetric Fistula we launched the Drawing Out Obstetric Fistula art exhibition at the New York University Kimmel Center, shining a spotlight on the experiences of women living with and recovering from obstetric fistula. All of the women featured in the collection received dignity-restoring surgery at CCBRT Disability Hospital.

We’re excited to announce that the exhibition, originally scheduled to close on July 4th, has been extended until December 31st, 2016. We’ve been thrilled by the response to this project, and we couldn’t let it close just yet. Thanks to our friends at Johnson & Johnson, the UNFPA-led Campaign to End Fistula, Fistula Foundation, and New York University for their continued support. You can visit this powerful collection on the 6th floor of the NYU Kimmel Center.

Lives and communities have been changed by your support. You are the driving force that makes this progress possible. Thank you for standing with us as we honored CCBRT’s milestone anniversary, and as we continue to empower the people of Tanzania with access to life changing, high quality healthcare.

Kind Regards,

Abbey Kocan
