Domestic violence victims fleeing abuse often need immediate transportation by bus or train to get to safety. This project will enable us to provide bus or train tickets to battered American mothers and their children so they can get to a safe shelter or hotel while we safety plan and access longer term services. We will provide 25 families with bus or train tickets at an average cost of $40 per family with this project.
Domestic violence victims need to get to a safe place as soon as possible after fleeing abuse as the most dangerous time is when they leave. Most are mothers with children, leaving them vulnerable, afraid and at risk. Bus or train tickets for these mothers and children to get to safety is critical.
By providing bus or train tickets, we can help victims escaping abuse get to a shelter or a hotel where we can help them safely plan their next steps.
Each year we provide battered American women and children with information and services necessary to enable them to live their lives without violence. Since 2001 we have helped over 3000 women plus their children free themselves from abuse.
