Thank you so much for your support to this campaign. For years, the school in Cherlapally existed without proper toilets. The teachers too had a tough time, relieving themselves in the bathrooms of the neighbors. It's such an embarassment. We wonder how the District Administration was oblivious to the plight of the kids all these years.

It took a tweet from a celebrity to a powerful Minister to get into the act and sanction toilets overnight. In addition, your support was equally encouraging.

Four months hence, our children have a new set of bathrooms. These toilets will be useful for more than 200 children and 6 staff members.

Sphoorti thanks all the Government officials, social sector activists for helping us pursue this issue and bring it to its logical conclusion.

Assurance from Government
Assurance from Government

For the last several years, requests from teachers and local leaders to Government authorities about the lack of restrooms in the school did not bear fruit. Last week, the teachers requested Sphoorti to consider raising funds for building a couple of toilets. Besides creating a campaign on GlobalGiving, we also tried approaching Cabinet Minister in Telangana Government Mr. KTR for support.

Mr KTR quickly acted on our request. On Saturday, various Government officials visited the school premises and assessed the situation. The District Collector assured that the toilets will be built within a month's time. In addition, a boundary wall and drainage connection have also been sanctioned.

Since the Government is taking up the responsibility in toto, we have decided to stop accepting funds further for toilets in the school.

We will consult the donors for their advice on how the funds raised so far can be utilised.
