This project will build part of a 3-room-school in Mah Di's orphanage, a house of 40 children, majority of them under 7 years. The Orphans do not have access to public education unless they walk for long through a road with traffic, which jeopardizes their right to education and even endangers their health. Mah Di's is trying to change this, and you can help them. But you can help them lay the foundations for a professional school with the motto "Let us bring hope to the hopeless".
Most of the children at Mah Di's Orphanage, in Kumba, are between 1 and 5 years old. The nearest public school is at 3 Km of distance, which is a lot for a 2 year old to walk, particularly as motorbikes and car pass along the road frequently. Moreover, school fees for nursery schools (under 5) are quite high, even if they are public. Moreover, besides the 40 orphans at Mah Di's, the underserved community around them has many destitute children affected by this.
It is cheaper to hire a teacher and start a school in Mah Di's itself. It will not only serve the children of the orphanage, it will also help others in the community. This has already started and for the last year a teacher has been working in the orphanage. Resources and structure are still very limited as the orphanage struggles to feed and educate more than 40 children and teenagers with very limited resources.
Every year more than 20 children will receive a better and more affordable education thanks to you. They will go on to have a better future and leave poverty forever. The school has grown already from one class of Nursery 1 (2-3 years) to two nurseries and two primary school classes, with the determination and resourcefulness of Mah Di, it can grow to be a comprehensive center where even secondary levels and vocational training are also taught. You can be part of this.
