This project will help build a well in Nsan Akan. A community with a population of about 800 persons and no clean water source. A simple but well protected well is the most suitable solution for this small community. This is expected to curb the rate of water borne diseases which is presently the highest observed by mobile clinics that have served 200 communities of the North-West and South-West Cameroon.
Two main sources of water are found in this community, the Cross River and rain water. The River at Nsan has a slow flow rate and is a junction of many streams coming from other villages. Rain water is only accessible during the wet season which lasts only for 3 months in a year, thus the people from the community use the water from the river during the dry season for drinking, defecating, washing clothes, bathing, fishing and even burying individuals in accordance with certain cultural rites.
This project will develop a simple well in this extremely poor bordering community, this will have a protective cover and will be treated and tested for turbidity, conductivity, and biological coliform testing. A water management committee will be constituted to mantain the well through community contributions. Reach Out will continue supervising the project every year.Reach out will contribute with concrete rings that are already available, and pay the salaries of the technical staff involved.
The rate of diarrhea and water-borne diseases will be reduced in Nsan Akan, helping its children develop stronger and making the community more attractive for development. The communtiy will also be able to meaningfully implement COVID-19 preventive measures with potable water.
