Dear donors, thanks to your support, we received more than 200$ for this project.
Unfortunately, this was not enough to build a well in Nsan Akan. However, other donors stepped up to support the bulk of the project, and the construction took place.
This is the report from our engineer:
"The following activities were carried out between August and November, 2020:
Thanks to this project, an isolated community affected by the ongoing crisis have had access to a source of potable water for drinking and for domestic activities. The joy, excitement and relief on their faces for this great gift to the community was evident. Roughly 432 persons are now obtaining their drinking water from the constructed well. Reach Out NGO and the entire community of Nsannakang thank GlobalGiving platform and the donors who made it possible for this project to go through with such success. With the increasing population from returnees who had fled the village to escape from the crisis, there is an increased need for more of such gestures. This is one of the most vulnerable communities identified by Reach Out in its 20 years of experience.
Nsan-Akang village is a remote village in Eyumojock sub-division of Manyu division in the Southwest Region of Cameroon. It is found in the equatorial rain forest and the main economic activities of the people are farming, fishing, and trading since it is a border village with Nigeria. It is characterized by gentle slopes accessible to the population. The road from Eyumojock central to Nsan-Akang is seasonal and almost inaccessible during the rainy season. There is a Government primary school, no health facility and no health providers present. The population rely on traditional remedies for treating common health issues like cold, fever and others, and on Reach Out’s mobile clinic, that visits the community every few months
Most of the construction materials to Nsan-Akang were brought through the river from Nigeria. However, light-weighted materials which could easily be transported by headload were purchased and transported from Mamfe through Eyumojock.
The construction was successful and potable water is now available for the first time in Nsan Akan's history. Throughout the project, the community volunteered labour, provided support, and kept us safe throughout. "
