Sexual and reproductive health is a critical aspect of overall well-being, particularly for girls and young women. However, in many parts of India, including Rajasthan, there is a lack of awareness and access to information on this subject. Cultural taboos, social stigmas, and limited educational opportunities contribute to the inadequate understanding of sexual and reproductive health, leading to various health risks and challenges.
To address the issue of inadequate sexual and reproductive health knowledge among girls and young women, Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan organized a workshop specifically focused on this topic. The workshop took place at the Beautician Vocational School of RSKS India, with the participation of more than 30 girls and young women. During the workshop, RSKS team members utilized interactive tools such as flipcharts and aprons to deliver comprehensive and engaging information on sexual and reproductive health. The use of visual aids helped simplify complex concepts, making the information more accessible and relatable to the participants. The workshop covered various topics, including menstrual health, hygiene, contraception methods, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and reproductive rights. The participants were encouraged to ask questions, facilitating an open and non-judgmental environment where they could freely express their concerns and seek clarifications. Furthermore, as part of their commitment to promoting menstrual health and have behavioral change, RSKS team members distributed sanitary napkin packets to all the women and girls who attended the workshop.
The Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Workshop organized by RSKS had a profound impact on the participants and the broader community. Firstly, the workshop provided accurate and essential information about sexual and reproductive health to the girls and young women who attended. By addressing topics such as menstrual health, contraception, and STIs, the workshop equipped them with knowledge to make informed decisions regarding their reproductive health and well-being. The interactive nature of the workshop fostered a safe space for open dialogue, enabling the participants to voice their concerns and seek guidance without fear of judgment. This encouraged a positive and empowering atmosphere, where girls and young women could feel supported and heard. The workshop not only imparted knowledge but also promoted self-confidence and agency in matters related to sexual and reproductive health.
