Exceeding Hopes After Flooding

Receiving Emergency Supplies

Thanks to the generosity of individuals and companies around the world, RED International's partner in Bangladesh, HRDP, were able to help over 500 families in desperate need following, perhaps the worst flooding in 20 years.

This was much more than they dreamed they could do. With about 5 members in each family that means a total of over 2500 people helped through basic medicines and food items. This was the first type of relief these families had received since the flooding.

It took quite a large effort for HRDP to survey the areas and assess which districts in Bangladesh needed the most care. Then team members bought and arranged the transport for the relief supplies and arranged the distribution once arrived.

What a joy it was for the teams to see the happiness on people’s faces when they received much-needed items. All the work was worthwhile. Here is how one man was particular impacted by the distribution.

Mr. Mohor is approximately 70 years old and was one of the many thousands of people affected by the floods in his area in Rangpur District. He has 6 children, but none of them care for him. He has been left alone. At this stage of his life, without any kind of assistance, the only way to get something to eat is begging at the road and in the neighbourhood. HRDP came to his area and he received food supplies and basic medicines. The photo does not express the extent of his gratitude and happiness for the assistance he received through HRDP. “Thank you to all of you who have made this work possible,” said Mr Mohor.

Thank you for partnering with us to help people like Mr Mohor in Bangladesh. The flood project is now closed. RED International and HRDP continue to work with the same communities through their long term literacy program that they are involved in.
