A few months back we were told by Zahana in Madagascar the awards for reforestation will be given at “the appropriate time”. This time has now come.
During her visit to the village of Fiadanana the Minster of Health, Dr Johanita Ndahimananjara took the time and honored our reforestation efforts by giving awards to the first 3 people who most successfully planted trees.
It is difficult to put into words what it means for a villager, what is the whole days walk from the next town, to receive an award certificate from the hand of the Minister of Health.
In this photo she is giving the ward to Maurice, the man who planted the most trees in his village of Fiarenana.
His award, besides the certificate was a solar cooker (see photo), a wall clock, a t-shirts, a lavalava and a cap. We hope that as a major opinion leader in his community the solar cooker might inspire others to get interested as well.
