Education and awareness regarding rehabilitation of these rescued parakeets will change perspectives of community members which will result in reduction in demand of illegal wildlife trade. The rehabilitation of these rescued parakeets is aimed at their release back in nature. The birds that were otherwise destined to death or permanent captivity will return back in their habitats.

Challenge

Illegal trafficking of Alexandrine parakeets is very rampant which has a negative impact on their population in the wild. The birds kept as illegal pets spend a life confined to small cages and suffer from various ailments due to nutritional deficiencies. The confiscated birds will be taken care of till they are ready to be released. The birds that were otherwise destined to death or permanent captivity will return back in their habitats .

Education and awareness regarding rehabilitation of these rescued parakeets will change perspectives of community members which will result in reduction in demand of illegal wildlife trade.

Long-Term Impact

Conservation of endangered as well as common bird species of Ahmedabad through scientific rehabilitation, and public education.
